Today was a day of beautiful weather here in Central-Portugal, easily reaching the forecasted 23 degrees Celsius. We spent a day working in the garden, removing unnecessary stones in the ground, leveling the ground, removing weeds and securing our grape vines. Another day of hard work and the right side of the house (in front of where the parking will come) should be done.
Tomorrow, a day of looking for and hopefully buying furniture in Lisbon.
Project Portugal-
Casa nas Serras which started out as 'Project Portugal' is a charming Bed and Breakfast located in Vila Nova de Poiares, Central Portugal. In between Porto in the north and Lisbon in the south we are situated 30 minutes east of Coimbra on the foothills of the Serra da Estrela.
After the renovations, this authentic country house has been turned into a small paradise in the Portuguese countryside.
Our blog below shows every step of the way, from tearing down parts of the house, to the reconstruction, the works on the swimming pool, interior designing, gardening and much more.
Please feel free to take a look around on this blog or on our website http://www.casanasserras.com
Questions, comments and requests for availability can be sent to info@casanasserras.com and we´ll get back to you as soon as possible.
We look forward to seeing you here in Portugal!

Swimming Pool
The swimming pool is now officially on it´s way. After finalizing the contract with the ´builder´ last week, the works have now started.
After measuring out the dimensions and exact location this morning, the digger started it´s work.
Half a day of work and we think we´re about half way.

Chopin @ School
Getting to know the teacher, Vitor, and the grounds.
Learning to walk beside the person holding the lead and sitting when the person stops walking.
He did a great job for day 2!
All we need now, is for city of Lousa to install the lights on the field so we can train in the evening during the week, if not, then Saturday is our next lesson!

Waking up to sunshine
Waking up early on a Saturday morning to the sunshine was a great motivation to start a long work day.
The day was filled with hanging up shelves in the laundry room, scrubbing cement off of the floor (sounds easy, but isn´t really; so far the hallway and part of the reception are done) and fixing final little details of our kitchen.
Also done today: took a tour of the house with the man that placed our windows to make sure that they all work properly, asked him for a price offer for glass shower doors and having mirrors cut to size (to place in the beautiful frames that we brought over from Morocco).
With all this done, we took Chopin to his first day of school in Lousa this afternoon and are ready to go back tomorrow.
Looking forward to be woken up by the rays of sun tomorrow morning.

Casa nas Serras
We have finally decided on a name for our Bed & Breakfast! From now on we will be referring to our B&B as Casa nas Serras, seeing as we´re located in between the Serra da Lousa and the Serra do Carvalho. Literally translated it means ´House in between the mountain ranges´.

Here is one of the first pictures of the interior of the house.
More will come as the painting continues and the interior designing starts.

Homemade Bread
So I tried my luck at making my own bread for the first time, and I must say it turned out pretty well.
Fresh homemade bread, add a bit of portuguese cheese, no better way to start the day.

Another sunny day in Portugal
With the sun shining and temperatures supposedly running up to 20 degrees this weekend we have some new motivation to continue our work.
This morning is spent installing a sink in our little kitchen here on the the second floor, as up until today we have been doing our dishes in a bucket which we fill in the bathtub downstairs. Not so convenient when this has been going on since the first weekend of November, but it's finally over!!! Sink = luxury, for now at least!
Also on the agenda for today:
- work on the website- writing text and speaking to our wesite designer to figure out layout.
- finish painting the bathroom door in one of the guest rooms - only one more layer to go
- move left over roof tiles which are now piled in the garden to a safe place for keeping
- and last, but definetely not least, take minute to realize how lucky we are that we have the Portuguese sunshine!
Wishing everyone a wonderful Wednesday, as per request, pictures of the inside of the house coming soon!
