Project Portugal-

Casa nas Serras which started out as 'Project Portugal' is a charming Bed and Breakfast located in Vila Nova de Poiares, Central Portugal. In between Porto in the north and Lisbon in the south we are situated 30 minutes east of Coimbra on the foothills of the Serra da Estrela.

After the renovations, this authentic country house has been turned into a small paradise in the Portuguese countryside.

Our blog below shows every step of the way, from tearing down parts of the house, to the reconstruction, the works on the swimming pool, interior designing, gardening and much more.

Please feel free to take a look around on this blog or on our website http://www.casanasserras.com

Questions, comments and requests for availability can be sent to info@casanasserras.com and we´ll get back to you as soon as possible.

We look forward to seeing you here in Portugal!

Update on the works

Several things are happening at the house at the moment. The house is being prepared for all the plumbing and electricity lines to be placed, which means that holes are being drilled everywhere, including the space we are using to live in at the moment. On the ground floor, all the inner walls for the ensuite bathrooms are being placed. And outside all the old paint is being removed from the walls with high pressure water. Pictures have been added in the slideshow to the right to show you a little bit of what is happening.

Vegetable Garden

Beans

We started our very own vegetable garden. It is tiny(3.5m x 3.5m) compared to everyone else's in Portugal, but we're still very proud! We planted a variety of different vegetables and herbs; roquette, chive, coriander, parsley, sweet bell peppers, beans, long red onions, watermelon, cantelope, zucchini, eggplant, brussels sprouts, rosemary. After a week of sun and water our first seeds have started to sprout, and we now have zucchini, watermelon, roquette, and bean plants growing in our garden!

Hopefully by the end of the summer we'll have some of our own fruit and vegetables to eat!

Hot hot hot...

We´ve been in Portugal for 2 weeks now, Fré has started work as a builder and I have become the new gardner. The weather has finally become what we expected, 27degrees today, 31 degrees on Wednesday and burning hot sun! Amazing for when you plan to lounge in the garden, but Fré will certainly confess that it is a little too hot to be up on a roof all day! Oh well, you don´t hear me complaining, (mainly cuz I´m not on the roof all day.. hihi..). Back to what´s important, the renovations are going well and we´ve met most of our direct neighbours. Fré has been invited by the workers to go on a portuguese fishing day...yum!

We´ve posted several pictures in the slide show to the right, so take a look. Some of them are of the renovations, others just of us!

That´s all for now, but we hope to be back soon to post some more news...

Greetings from sunny Poiares!
